I agree with you, it's really annoying to keep hearing about "the war against drugs" and as you say there is a lack of balanced reporting. Most foreign news cover Mexico as a war torn and violence ridden place which in turn makes people think it is like that. How many people from outside have contacted me to ask if everything is all right? The irony in this is that many parts of Western Europe or even the US are probably worse than Mexico, and these don't get as much coverage.

As you say there is also a real lack of responsibility from the US. They put all the blame on Mexico when their high need for drugs is the real reason for the escalation of violence.

A bunch of us expats who live in Mexico have started a website to try to counter the sensationalist reporting about violence in Mexico. THe current wave of reporting is akin to saying there is a huge wave of violence in Texas so no one should go to the United States.

Thank you, Deborah, for your balance reporting, both here and at the LA Times.

Permiteme decir que es uno de los pocos artículos imparciales que he leído por parte de los periodistas que cubren la violencia en México. Me ha parecido bastante acertado tu punto de vista y en muchos sentidos lo comparto.

Saludos
